CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College men's soccer team stayed in the race for a spot in the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a 4-1 win over LeTourneau University on Thursday night at Arrow Field on the campus of Clinton High School.
The Choctaws improved to 11-4-3 on the season with a 6-3-3 mark in the ASC. The YellowJackets dropped to 5-8-4 on the year with a 2-7-3 record in the league.
Senior
Tyler Wade opened the scoring on a direct free kick in the 23rd minute. The two teams would remain at a 1-0 lead for the Choctaws heading into halftime.
Junior
Michael Cooper scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 57th minute on an assist from Wade. The Vicksburg native now has 19 goals on the season which ties a single-season record for the Choctaws with Phillip Buffington.
Freshman
Julio Cesar Espinal extended the lead in the 63rd minute on an assist from junior
Austin Baker. Sophomore
Ryan Berryhill scored the final goal for MC in the 80th minute on assists from Cooper and Espinal.
Ben Stoeckmann scored the only goal for the YellowJackets as time expired to ruin the shutout for the Choctaws.
MC outshot LeTourneau 25-13 in the match, with 11 of those shots coming on goal.
Junior
Andrew Dailey made four saves for the Choctaws.
MC will host East Texas Baptist on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The location of the match is yet to be determined due to inclement weather conditions.
