CLINTON, MS - Despite a week full of rain that soaked Choctaws Trails, Mississippi College hosted the Watson Ford Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  There were still some very good performances at the meet even though conditions were not optimal.

The Lady Choctaws had their best meet of the year.  Led by sophomore Jennifer Cooper, MC finished third overall and second in the small college division.  Her time of 24:47 in the 6k race was good enough for fourth place overall and second place in the the small college division.  Following Jennifer for MC were Ivy Price (25:21), Amber Griffis (25:39), and Amanda Barstow (26:05).

"I was very pleased with the efforts of the women's team.  Despite the conditions, they came out on ran well. The times weren't outstanding, but, for the conditions, I thought they were pretty good.  We ran with great focus today.  That was the main thing we were hoping to accomplish this week.  We put the conditions out of our minds and concentrated on racing other teams."

The men's team also preformed well.  Will Clingon led the Choctaws with his eighth place overall finish, and a fourth place finish in the small college division.  Will's time of 27:54 for the 8k led the Choctaws to a fourth place overall team finish, and a third place small school team finish.  Following Clingon for the Choctaws were Tino Gonzalez (28:22), Casey Keiser (28:28), Shane Brogdon (28:33), and Zak Prevost (30:03).

"The guys are kind of beat up right now.  I have more cheering than I have running.  We have just been hamstrung with some injuries over the season, and we will continue to get those healed.  Today, I thought we did well despite the conditions.  The women's race really chopped up a soggy course and then the guys had to run right afterwards.  We competed well and that's all that matters to me on a day like today.  We will continue to work on healing and start focusing on our conference meet."

The Choctaw Open, scheduled for next Saturday at Choctaw Trails, has been canceled due to course conditions.  MC will look for another meet next week before taking a week off to get ready for the ASC Conference Championships on October 31st at Choctaw Trails.

"The course is just in no shape to run on anytime soon.  It was beat up pretty bad today, along with the parking lots, and will take at least a week of dry weather just to be able to start working on repairing it.  It is going to take a lot of work to get it ready for conference, but I think canceling some meets out there over the next couple of weeks will help in the process of getting is ready to compete on again.  Right now we won't even be able to practice on it for at least a week of dry weather, and it is supposed to rain this week again."
